MSU Varsity 'S' Club- Board of Director
Donald B. Weatherspoon, Ph.D., was named Consent Agreement Consultant for Pontiac Schools as part of a consent agreement between the district and the state to help with the school improvement process including financial restructuring.
He held similar roles as the Emergency Manager for both Muskegon Heights Schools and Highland Park Schools beginning in April, 2012, before resigning to accept the position in Pontiac in October, 2013.
Previously in his career, he was appointed as an Administrative Commissioner for the Michigan Liquor Control Commission in May, 2007, for a term expiring in June, 2014. He resigned from the MLCC in April 2012. He also has served as Special Assistant to the Director of the Michigan Department of Corrections.
Dr. Weatherspoon has been a Chief Deputy Director of the Family Independence Agency; past President of the Michigan State University National Alumni Association and the College of Social Science Alumni Association; Adjunct Associate Professor for the School of Criminal Justice at Michigan State University; Assistant Superintendent for the Michigan Department of Education; Director of the Division of Budget Review for the Maryland General Assembly; Deputy Director for Administration in the Departments of Natural Resources and Commerce, as well as a Research Associate at the Eagleton Institute of Politics at Rutgers University.
In addition, Dr. Weatherspoon is on the Board of Directors for the MSU Green and White political action committee (PAC), a member of the MSU Varsity S Club and Vice Chair of the MEEMIC Education Foundation. Formerly, Dr. Weatherspoon served as a mentor for The Clara Bell Smith Student Athlete Academic Center.
A Michigan native, Dr. Weatherspoon earned a bachelor’s degree in Police Administration from MSU, a master’s degree in Early Childhood Education from Eastern Michigan University and a Ph.D. in General Education Administration from the University of Michigan.
